How to check which Windows 2003 Licensing Server is used

I have a 2003 TS server. I also have a 2003 TS licensing server running in
Domain /workgroup mode in my domain. The server's registry is harded coded
to use the licensing server based on the article q279561. However, after a
few users used the system, i didn't see any licenses allocated in the
Licensing server. Also, one administrator noted that in the Managed computer
box, it shows "No Terminal Server is available".

How to i know what Licensing server i am connected to?

Check the EventLog on the Terminal Server. If it can't find a
license server, it will record an event there.

Did you install Per User or Per Device TS CALs?
If Per User, is the Terminal Server (not the Licensing Server!)
set to use "Per User" licensing? The default is "Per Device".
You can check this from Administrative Tools - Terminal Services
Configuration - Server Settings
If it's set to Per Device mode, it will look for a Device TS CAL
and will not issue your Per User TS CALs.

Check this article, it explains that even after you have
switched licensing mode on the TS, your Per User TS CAL count will
not be decremented:

Yep. The 2003 TS server is set to use Per User (which corresponds with the
Licensing server). No errors were logged in the Event Log. When i log on as
an administrator, i was able to connect to a 2003 Licensing server (by
launching that snap-in and hit connect to the License Server).

The problem is that the License Server is not decrementing the license and
"Manage Computer" windows consistently show that No Terminal Server is found.
My biggest concern is that all of these users are using Temporary licenses
which are set to expire in 120 days.

Help!!

The fact that the LS is not decrementing the TS CAL count is to be
expected, as documented in the KB article I referenced.
All users receive a temporary license on the first connection, and
are issued a permanent license on the second connection, only you
won't see those in the LS Manager.
Do you users actually get a warning about expiring licenses?

No, none of the user receives that msg. In the "Managed Computer" Window,
when you log in as administrator to the box, it shows that "No terminal
Licensing Server is available". I wish i can email you the snapshot so you
can see what i am talking about.

Is there a command line tool and allows me to check what my Licensing server
is? (similar to the set command which shows you what your logon server
information).

OK, although this is the first time you mention that it can't find
a Terminal *Licensing* server (in stead of a Terminal Server), it
was pretty clear from the context that that was what you really
meant.
I assume that you have triple-checked the registry entry on the
Terminal Server which hardcodes the name of the LS?
Where and how *exactly* do get to the "No TS LS available"
message? On which server? Have you tried this on the console of
the Terminal Server?

There's LSreport and/or LSview from the Resource Kit (I'm not sure
if both tools run on both W2K and 2003; can't check now).
