How to burn a virtual CD (=create an ISO from burning software) ?

E

Eugen Austermann

Assume I don't want to burn something not onto a real CD/DVD but into a virtual CD/DVD.
The result should be an *.iso file. How can I do this?

Creating an .iso file is not virtual. Its real.
Nero, EZCd Creator (roxio) to name 2.
I like Nero.

Most CD/DVD burning applications will create ISOs - and it is not usually
done by burning to a virtual CD/DVD drive.

There are also freeware applications that can create an ISO from a CD/DVD
and/or from a groups of files.

Google for ISO file creation...

I'd think that the answer would depend very much on what sort of burning
software you own. IIRC in Nero you choose "image device" as the output
rather than a physical burner.

Select the option in your mastering software to burn to image, or set your
recorder to image, since you failed to inform us which burning software your
using, that's about all I can suggest.

You cannot"burn"to anything BUT a real CD.
Burn as in lasers burning into or onto the suface or heating up the suface.
IF said surface is not there then HOW can you"burn"?

"Burning an image" or "burning an ISO" are phrases commonly used by people
to describe creating an ISO or other image format, it was quite obvious what
the OP wanted to accomplish.

With WinXP? You can't.

You may be able to get THIRD PARTY software to do it, though. Look
for that on the web or in a store.

A quick google search for "create virtual cd iso winxp" yields several
possible solutions:
http://www.google.com/search?num=10...246&q=create+virtual+cd+iso+winxp&btnG=Search

A search at download.com for "virtual cd iso" yields:
http://www.download.com/3120-20_4.html?tg=dl-20&qt=virtual cd iso&tag=srch
You can filter the results to your operating system, etc.

I have not used any of these, just did a couple of searches.

Good luck.

HOW can you expect to"BURN"to something that is not there?
Burn as in laser heating up ink on a dvd or cd.
You cannot"burn" to a virtual disk!

M

Mighty Quinn

WRONG!
Creating an ISO is NOT burning

Not sure I understand what you're asking.

If you want to create an iso file then it really has nothing to do with
burning. There are several programs that can create iso files. If you own an
actual CD/DVD burner then the software that came with it can possibly do
this.

If you have an iso file and want to use it without burning it then it must
be mounted on the virtual drive. There are several programs that can create
virtual drives, and they would also have the capability of mounting iso
images to those virtual drives.

No, you would be wrong, I didn't say it was burning, I said the term
"burning an image" is a standard industry phrase, obviously you haven't been
around computers for long.

Are all you people that clueless? Do you actually have no idea what
"burning" an ISO means? Or do you just feel like being overly technical to
try to impress others?
