How show PDFs in separate Acrobat not in IE?

Zak

If I click a libk to a PDF file then Internet Explorer shows it
within itself.

How can I get IE to show PDF files by launching Adobe Acrobat Reader
as a standalone application?

Right click the link and select Save Target As. This will get you a
download dialog box and the pdf won't open in your browser.

This should allow you to get a download dialog box and never open a pdf file
in IE again.
Go to >>
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\Plug_ins
and move the EWH32.api file up into the Optional folder.

EWH32.api = External Window Handler
The Acrobat Browser Manager plug-in allows users to view PDF files in their
web browser.

Get this and disable all the unneeded crap from Adobe Reader...

Change the appropriate preference in Adobe Acrobat.
It is (naturally) controlled by the Adobe Acrobat application.

gitte,
I saw a similar construct to the one you used here in a Microsoft KB, and I
couldn't understand it.

What I refer to is: <a href="./the pdf-fil.pdf" target="_blank">

Usually, I understand that the name in quotes after href= shoudl be a
filename.

What are the characters ./ (dot and slash) before the filename for?
Do they mean "go to this directory and then find the file in this directory"
?
In other words, a file on the current directory?

If so, aren't they redundant?
If not , what do they mean?

Strange,Wes

I inserted a link to a PDF file and on left click I got the Open | Save
dialog. Right click shows Save Target As greyed out

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\Plug_ins contains EWH32.api

Is this consistent with what you are saying ?

No, Trevor.

Some web sites turn off this feature.

We'll look at one that I know is not grayed out for me.

Go here...

First one on the list: AC Braking Basics, Right click the pdf icon and
select Save Target As.

The only things I see here that are grayed out are:
Show Picture
Cut
Paste

Specifically, in Adobe Reader or full version, go to Edit>Preferences, click
"internet" on the left and deselect "show pdf in browser".
