I purchased that I can put on it but it gives me a message it not

system and put on a new one? NEED HELPS!

If it was a windows 95 machine, you might make windows 98 work, assuming you can find drivers for
the hardware.
But I doubt very much you could make windows XP load, and if you did get it to load, and you find XP
drivers for the hardware, I don't think you would like the results.

Unless you have 256 Megs of RAM, a CPU at or above 1000 MHZ (1 GHz), windows XP walks, but it does
not run.

Yes you could, and should, install Windows 98 as a clean install. i.e. format the drive and do the
installation.

For decent bare minimum performance of XP you should use 256 megs memory,
and a 300 mhz processor -- the extra memory is more important than the
processor speed.

Boot from the win98 CD

select boot from cd
select start computer without cdrom support
type fdisk
delete any partitions you have
Create 1 big partition
exit fidsk
reboot with CD still in drive
select boot from cd
select start win98 setup (the first option)

away you go

Is there more detail on these instructions? I booted from the win98 cd,
I selected boot from cd, I selected start computer without cdrom
support, then I got a screen with a: I typed in fdisk and nothing
happened? Help if you can

That's because you need to boot from a Windows 98 floppy:
Go here to download one.

NOTHING happened? No error message?

There usually is an fdisk command that you can get to... If NOTHING
happened, your CD may be dirty or scratched. Anyway, we'll see. There
are alternate approaches.

If all else fails, there is the boot floppy approach.

Another thing that works is to download DBAN on a floppy (or CD), to
nuke the partition, and proceed from HERE

http://dban.sourceforge.net/

a quick wipe will do, you can also cancel after the first couple
percent, if you want.

The setup will then "Configure" the unpartitioned space to be as big as
your drive will allow.

and then reboot

and do this again

the setup program will then start formatting the disk, and do the rest.
