How do you re-install explorer.exe

B

Bob Schilling

Explorer does not run. shdocvw.dll got deleted trying to
fix another problem. Message is:

EXPLORER.exe
This application has failed because shdocvw.dll was not
found.
Re-installing this application may fix the problem.

Searched knowledge base, can't find how to re-install just
this application. XP cd seems to want to do a fresh
install or an upgrade - I see no option for targeted
repair. Any help would be appreciated.

You can't pull the saved copy from %windir%\system32\dllcache? "sfc
/scannow" didn't find the file was missing?

Hi Bob,

Not sure this will help in your case, but good luck and let us know how it
goes:

Go to Start/Run and type in CMD:
expand x:\i386\explorer.ex_ c:\windows\explorer.exe

In addition, go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll

Other than that, depending is you are using Netscapte, etc. Do a
Start/Search and rename each copy that shows up except the proper XP
version. The problem generally occurs if the system has version
6.0.2713.1500 (or later) of Shdocvw.dll installed."

More information here:

Last resort: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?shdocvw

Good luck!
