How do you clear the Most Frequently Used programs list?

G

Gordon

Sorry folks but not sure where to try this one - but there must be an answer
somewhere.

Hi all

I don't seem to be able to find an answer on how to clear the MFU programs
list on the XP Start Menu.

Yes you can manually click the button on the properties page.
Yes you can disable it altogether with the NoStartMenuMFUProgramsList option
in the registry.

What I am trying to do is pre-set the Default Profile with a blank list.
[To save time here - create user/configure/copy profile to Default, DOES NOT
WORK!! even after you rework the desktop.ini's]

Questions
1/ Is there a registry location, either for the defaults or the actuals.
2/ Is there a folder/file somewhere, either for the defaults or the actuals.

Rather basic - I want the feature enabled as designed - I just want to start
with an empty list.

[The Default User configuration process I am using for my other settings is
to use Regedit to load the DU .dat hive, modify and unload again - works so
far]

Any help? ...

.... Please

Cheers Donald, but like the post said, I know we can do it manually, but how
do you do it through the registry or config file or where ever the info is
stored??

Use MRU-Blaster (http://www.wilderssecurity.net/). However, the current
approach it uses is to delete ALL these lists. While you could deselect the
ones that you don't want to clear, there could be hundreds of these lists.
The program does not provide an Unselect All button. You cannot highlight
all found items, deselect them, and then select just the ones you want to
clear. Also, you cannot get any info as to which registry key is associated
with each item in the scanned list. I have contacted the developer and he
says these features will appears in the next version. So while the program
isn't clear as to what registry keys it will modify and it is currently
really oriented towards clearing them all, it can still be a handy utility.
