How do I uninstall a driver update?

I received a driver update from VIA Technologies through
the Windows Update site. It is the "Vinyl AC Codec Combo
Driver (WDM). But now everytime I reboot the pc hangs and
will not start. If I go back the the last "knows good
configuration" Windows will load. It detects the update,
and loads it. I can go into the device manager and remove
it, but when I reboot, it hangs again and I am back to
where I started. How can I stop this driver from trying
to load and get rid of it for good?

Open Device Manager, select the item in question, right-click > Properties >
driver and push the roll-back the driver button.
