How do I turn off the IE history in the address bar

Everyone,
I remember being able to turn off the history links kept in the address bar.
When you turn this off IE does not suggest addresses for you after you type
the first few letters and your recent surfing history does not appear when
you pull down on the address bar arrow - Does anyone know where this config
setting is. This is Not the auto complete - is the IE address history.
Thanks very much

Hi James :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Disable History - Don't want to keep history

Tools>Internet Options>General tab
In the Number of days to keep History window, set it to zero

Then on General tab > Click the Clear History tab
Click Delete Files tab
Click Delete Cookies tab
Click Apply

Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

The temporary I.E. files folder is a cache for web pages that you have
visited. I don't know why Microsoft sets the default so high, but I have
seen 2gb set for storage. This and other setting can be changed to decreace
the size of the storage area, and supposedly delete the I.E. temp file when
you close the browser.

Also, disable Autocomplete

Tools>Internet Options>Content tab>click Autocomplete
Uncheck all the boxes for features you don't want to use
Click Apply
Then OK

also....

To delete ALL Addresses in the Drop Down list, go here and
download and install Mike Burgess' DelTypedURL.inf at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

and....

You might need to delete the damaged History folder- a new one will be
created on restart.

and then......

Clearing Autocomplete

Try the following and see it it helps.

Disable Autocomplete

Tools>Internet Options>Content tab>click Autocomplete
Uncheck all the boxes for features you don't want to use
Click Apply
Then OK

With no programs open,
Run REGEDIT and make your way to this key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IntelliForms\SPW]
Export that key (Registry> Export.) If you you wish to undo the change,
doubleclicking on that REG file will restore the original registry key.
Then delete the SPW key.
Restart the computer.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps
