How Do I remove Duplicate OS Due to Reinstall?

M

Maxwell

Greetings!

I recently upgraded my processor on my computer, which eventually required
me to reload my XP-Professional.

I reinstalled my XP OS, but somehow either I missed a step, or the program
assumes you've removed the old OS, because after I finished, I had two
relatively complete copies of my OS on my computer. My primary 80 G hard
drive is almost full, mainly because of the duplication.

Is there a way to remove the old version without having to do a complete
reinstall?

Thanks!
Max

A clean install would be the best option but you can remove the "windows"
folder you're not using then remove the startup option for it from boot.ini
Start|Run|"msconfig"|boot.ini and "Check All Boot Paths"

To do a clean install boot the Windows XP install CD-Rom. When you get to
the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions found. After you
delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again restart the pc booting
the CD-Rom to avoid unexpected drive letter assignments with your new
install.

Be sure to apply SP2 or at least these two below to your new install before
connecting to any network.

You can always try deleting the entire Windows directory (old version)
from the new OS.
