How do I reformat C drive on a dell?

Hi,
A friend crashed his computer. It is a Dell Demensia with windows
home edition. He has all the Dell disks that came with his computer.
I know that Dell does not provide a XP full program disk. It is on
lots of separate disks .
Have a happy New Year!
Thanks in advance

You may be able to get a Windows XP disk by calling Dell Support and
requesting one.

When I ordered Dell 700m laptop a Windows XP Pro was requested; it failed to
be in the box when the laptop arrived. After a few months I had a need to
call support and mentioned the missing XP disk. Dell immediately sent disks
for all the programs on the laptop including the one titled;

Operating System
Already installed on your computer
Reinstallation CD
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Service Pack 2

The opening screen looks exactly like my Windows XP Professional w/SP 2

Do not multipost in the future.
Learn to crosspost if/when it is appropriate.

First - it's 'Dimension' - see it around the power button - for the exact
model number, etc.
If he has the 'Dell disks' - as you say - he should be able to restore his
system to the 'shipped' state by using those.

It also came with instructions and Dell would have them online:
http://support.dell.com/support/top...1A&journalid=497058C7975711DBB4225D60633A6D93

Follow the pull-downs and answer the questions to get steps. If you just
want to format and start over for whatever reason - answer accordingly.

Dell *does* provide an 'XP full program disk' if you pay attention when you
order it and ask for said disk ($10 I think..) and you may be able to call
Dell Technical support and order said disk (likely more than $10 now) for
your Dell computer.

Dell has directions on their website that explain how to use their recovery
software.

If it's like my Toshiba laptop, the disks you speak of are recovery disks.
Mine has three disks - I load the first disk in the CD drive, the system
boots from the disk, and then I just follow the prompts until the system is
restored, it's a very easy process. The system is restored to the condition
it was in when purchased. Any XP updates that were installed in the past
will have to be installed again.

Hello,
Today I called Dell @ 1-ferbished800-357-3355 For Dimension
3000 factory re-build parts number.
I asked for the red disk that has windows xp home on it.
He stated that disk costs 300.00 dollars and that is before tax!
So I do understand your pain.
Happy New Year to you also.

Just get a generic OEM Windows XP Professional (32bit) for $150 or less..

I suggest getting it from someplace reliable.

Simply follow the recovery instructions the Dell provided along with
those CDs, one of which is normally the OS installation CD. (It will
say "Operating System" on it.)

Hi
all u need to do is shut down the computer. Then press the Power button. adn
at the same time start tapping the CTRL key and F11 key together. U will
get the Pc restore option, select restore. and confirm. its wil restore ur
computer in 10 minutes .. formats the c drive and reinstalls everything
again, as it was on day one.

But this is possible if the dell computer was bought after January 2005.

That is good advice except you will need the drivers disk also.
Other wise you will spend time with the device manager re-installing
missing drivers( updating drivers) from the CD restore disk.
At least that is what happened while following the above advice
yesterday.
Just wanted to let you know that from the factory it installs the
drivers under a F:\ drive (partition off C:\drive. Once you re-
format C:\ you lose that f:\ drive with the drivers ( F:\Dell\drivers)
folder.OK?
Have A Happy New Year!
