How do I put two small JPEG photos on my desktop, one next to theother?

Hello There,
One simple question. (The question is simple. I know nothing of the
answer.)
I know how to put one JPEG photo on my desktop. But, how do I put two
(2) JPEGs on my desktop, one next to the other? For instance, two
small photos of the same size?
I shall be much obliged if you knew the answer and let me know.
Thanking you in advance,
Have a good weekend,
Urban

Group them together in an image editing program.

Use a program that edits graphic images to make one graphics image out
of the two of them, and use that result as your desktop background.

I use faststone image viewer.
http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDownload.htm
It has a Create-> wallpaper -> wallpaper anywhere feature that lets you
basically make a desktop wallpaper with any color background and add any
number of photos to it, at any location. It even allows you to
decorate the edge of each photo for artistic appearance.
The program is free. Its also not such a bad layman's image viewer.
