How do I purge Outlook's startup information?

When I start Outlook I get an alert window that says: "The connection to
Microsoft Exchange server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected
to complete this action." (I have an always on dsl connection). When I hit
the OK button Outlook brings up the Microsoft Exchange Server window with the
server information and mailbox info. I want to purge this information, so I
delete these settings, hit apply, and then OK. Then I get an alert window
that says: "Unable to open your default e-mail folders. The folder
D:\documents and settings\Christopher\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.ost is not an offline folder file." When I
click OK again, or Cancel, the program shuts down. I cannot get into it to
change the settings. How do I fix this? I have tried uninstalling and
reinstalling to no avail.

You can modify the mail profile by using the mail applet in the control
panel. (Note: If using Windows XP, you might have select the "classic view"
in the upper left to see all control panel applets.)
