How do I open a PowerPoint 2003 document in a previous version?

I am preparing a Powerpoint presentation. I have Office 2000 at home and we
have version 2003 at work. I have the presentation on a flash drive. I made
some changes to the presentation on the computer at work, and now I cannot
open the document at home. It insists that I install Office 2003, and keeps
asking me to enter the product Key. When I can't enter the info, it closes
my document. I resaved the document at work using "save as" and selected an
earlier version of PowerPoint from the menu. It still doesn't work on my
home computer. I am mortified that when I go to give this presentation, it
is not going to open on the computer at the conference either. What should I
do?

Hi Paula

My first piece of advice is NEVER work directly from a flash drive - copy
the file to your hard drive, work on it, save changes, then copy it back to
the flash drive. My apologies if you're doing this already :)

Try right clicking the file and selecting 'open with' then use 'choose
program' -> 'browse' and navigate to powerpoint 2000 (probably in C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE<some number>\powerpnt.exe - sorry I don't know
the number as I don't have 2000, but 2007 is <12>, 2003 is <11>, so 2002
might be <10> and 2000 might be <9> but I'm not sure).

Let us know how you get on.

I am trying to open power point but the slide uses the entire screen. I
can't see the toolbar. How do I change the view?

Thank you.

Firstly PPT 2000 (which is v9 Lucy) should open ppt files from 2003 no
problem. Of course they wont play properly if you add features which are
only in 2003. Make sure that the version at work has at least SP 1 installed
though as there were serious problems before this with compatibility (though
usually trying to open 2000 files in 2003)

Saving for earlier versions is not a good idea unless you go right back to
95. It's not the answer.

Are you opening Powerpoint in 2000 and using file > open to navigate to the
file(rather than double clicking the icon) - if not try that. Could you have
added a password to modify or open in 2003? This will cause 2000 to reject
the file.

If all else fails send me the file and I'll see if it opens here
