You left out a lot of details. If you are using the drive as a slave, just
install it and format it from the working PC. Or delete the XP install.

If you want to boot the new computer with the old drive, then it depends on
what type of computer the old drive came from and is going into.

Please clarify exactly what you have and what you want to do in order to get
focused help.

Google:

"Repair Install" "Windows XP"

(as typed above.)

If the computer you are moving from came *with* Windows XP installed -
chances are there is a sticker on the old computer with the proiduct key
printed on it - true?

I canl answer both replies in this post.
Both PCs are Intel LGA775 cpu pcs with similar, 945 type chipsets. The new
pc has more letters on the end of the 945 number. The old motherboard is
945G, new motherboard is 945GPL 945xxx, all of those. The old 320gb harddrive
is running XP Home Edition(C.O.A.) and the new pc has an XP Home Edition
C.O.A. on the side...phew, thankyou...

I can answer both replies in this one post.
The old computer has an XP Home Edition C.O.A. and so does the new pc. The
old PC has an Intel 945G type motherboard chipset and the new pc has an Intel
945GPL 945xxx type motherboard chipset.

Before you do anything I hope you have all data backed up.!!
If the old PC came with winxp preinstalled, then its unlikely to work on the
new PC as winxp may be tied to the old hardware, and in any case an oem
version of winxp is not transferable to a new PC
You could try a repair installation of winxp on the new pc, but that would
require the winxp disk and not a recovery disk

Judging by your previous answers to Malke and Shenan you have 2 Computers
that both came with XP preinstalled and as such each has
a COA attached to the outside of the case. If that is the case you cannot
move the HD from one to another. Each Manufacturers OEM version of XP and
the drivers that go with it are unique to the Computer it came installed on.
An OEM version of XP is not transferable.
You could install the HD as a slave in the new system and "copy" your work
over to the new HD...but not programs.
You could also use the Files and setting tranfer wizard ...open Help&Support
to look up how.

If there is something specific that you want to move or are having a problem
with the newer Computer post back and let us know.
