How do I hook up my web cam to my web site??

We already have a website for our business, but I do not know how to hook up
the web cam to the web site. It has a spot for it on our web page already.
Any help??

If your host allows for subwebs create a subweb for the webcam images, since
the software that came with your camera will need to ftp it to your website.
If you're using FP extensions ftp will mess up the extensions so you put it
in a subweb to prevent problems. Then follow instructions for software that
came with your camera.

Hey Rob

I'm just wondering how making a subweb to ftp in to would keep FP extensions
from getting messed up when the subweb has the same makeup that the root web
except for being underneath the root. All of the FP folders are in the
subweb too aren't they? I'm just curious.

Yes, I believe so but since you wouldn't be Publishing to it via http method
or using any features within the subweb that requires working extensions it
keeps your main web safe. At least that's me take on it.

That is largely correct. The extensions within the subweb may be
corrupted - but the extensions for the root web (and any other
subwebs) will be untouched.

I guess it just means you had better pay close attention when publishing
with ftp that the files go in the place that you want or you will pay the
price!!

Thanks
Jeff

Yah, but fixing the extensions is no big deal either. The frustration is
when people don't know that they've wacked them and spend days trying to
figure out why they can't open their web...etc.

Fixing the extensions can be pain, if they have to be removed, then you will loose all settings for
subwebs / subsites, and any unique permissions if allowed to be set, etc.

If you're using FP extensions ftp will mess up the extensions
This isn't entirely true.

Where the FTP corruption comes into play is when dealing with FP-specific
components or files managed locally by FP.

For images uploaded from a webcam via FTP there is no problem.

I've done plenty of sites where the customer uploads their own images with
FTP, which are then added to a page with ASP and a Databse, and have never
had a problem.

Now, if you were to create a site in FP, and then upload it with FTP, you
would probably have a problem.

Hadn't thought about unique permissions. What settings do you lose on
subwebs? I've reset extensions my self many times..but never had subwebs at
the time..so am curious.

You loose the subwebs, they revert back to folders.

subwebs / subsites are a function of the FP extensions.
