How do i get spell check to work in English UK

I set the default language in Word to English (U.K.) from English (U.S.) but
now spell check and auto correct do not seem to work. If I write 'appple' in
Word it doesn't come up as being wrong even though auto correct and spell
check are switched on. How do I get spell check to work in English (U.K) and
also how do I switch back to English (U.S)?

I tried this but it doesn't work for Word 2007. Anyone know how to set
English UK as the default language for spelling and gramma checking in word
2007 please?
