how do I get rid of the usb icon in the system tray?

when I plug in the usb cable modem, the icon (safely remove hardware) on the
tray appear, how do I hide that? or make it so it wont show up in there?

Right click the taskbar, select Properties, and click the Customize button.
In the Current Items list under behavior click on "Hide when inactive" and
from the drop down menu choose "Always Hide". Click OK and it should become
hidden.
