How do I format phone fields in Outlook?

I want to only enter numbers in phone number fields in Outlook and the phone
numbers appear with hyphens.
Example: I want to enter 8005551234 and have it appear as 800-555-1234.

Masking of phone numbers is hard coded and cannot be configured by the
end user.
