How do I delete Music Match from my computer???.

G

Guest

I upgraded from 9 to 10 and ever since it will not play. Just the insignia
comes up and then nothing. I cannot open the program, and when I go to add
and remove programs to delete it... it comes up with a box saying that there
is an error and has to close. It will not let me remove it!!!
I do not want to reinstall it without deleting it, as I tried this
earlier and it crashed my computer. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you saying you can't delete it through "Add and Remove Programs" in your
Windows O/S Control Panel? If so, do you feel comfortable searching for the
MusicMatch files in Windows Explorer and deleting them?

Also, are you using WinXp, 98, or ???

Yes.. i cannot delete through Add and Remove programs in my control panel. I
am running xp, and am fairly comfortable searching in Windows Explorer. I
have already done a search and there is a ton of files with this Music match
program.
-- I didn't want to go ahead and just delete them that way until I got some
sound advice.

I couldn't find any specific MM support FAQ answers to a hang up w/Windows,
but here is their generic answer regarding Install/Reinstall instructions,
with the link to their web site below.

You may have to remove the shared files, before you can delete through the
Control Panel as instructed.

If it doesn't work... post again with any problems. :)

thanks for the info, but still when I go to add/remove programs, and click on
remove Musicmatch, a dialogue box comes up saying.... setup.exe has
encountered a problem and needs to close. So I am still a little leary as to
deleting the files as per their instructions...there is a slew of them. Can
I not just delete the main folders?

If you are not concerned with *saving* any music files you may have copied
or downloaded, I don't see that you have anything to lose by deleting all
the folders, and then the *shared* files as they instruct. Did you not have
any music stored in the MM library in Version 9 that you wanted to keep?

I would also empty your Temporary Internet and Temp files, and delete the
MusicMatch cookies in your browser, before trying to install again. As well
as disable your Anti-Virus program [after downloading] while installing MM.

If none [or some] of this doesn't make sense, just let me know. :)
bj

P.S. - I'm assuming you are using the free versions, so there are no
registration problems to be concerned with.

I think you know what I meant above, but I am compelled to CORRECT what I
said to... "by deleting all the folders"... *clearly marked as Music Match
folders*. ;) <whew>

thanks again for the info, I will try to get at it later today. I don't have
any music files saved, this version came with my lap top, and that is why
when they asked me to upgrade.. I did. and whammo. I assume I had the free
version, that came with the Delll computer.

Well I tried to delete the folders as directed, and was able to get rid of
the common files and the update, but when I went to delete musicmatch jukebox
I was denied. It came up with "cannot delete Attribute info.dll. Access is
denied." So then I went into the registry and checked to see under the
permissions if I was allowed full control entry. I checked it all for all
users, but still no go. I am really frustrated now.I have disabled it as
much as possible. Made Windows media player my default, but still annoying
that I cannot delete this thing from the computer.I think that it just never
updated properly in the first place and is hung in limbo. Any more thoughts
on getting rid of this beast would be greatly appreciated.

This is strange, because I have MMJB v10 working on my system, and Windows
Search doesn't return ANY "info.dll" on my entire system. So I did a search
on Google and found an article about a *worm* named Bymer. Here's the link
to it: http://www.auditmypc.com/process/info.asp

And here is Symantec's page about "Bymer" with an interactive tutorial to
clear it, if you think that could be the problem.

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/pf/w32.hllw.bymer.html

This info is from McAfee about another trojan that uses an "info.dll" file:
http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_121075.htm

Or it could be some regular program you have on your system, that I do not.

Maybe you should try the Symantec tutorial or some different A-V or spyware
programs to see if they will clear it out. What are you using now?

Well I am just about certifiable now... have done everything possible...
scans. scans.. scans. nothing comes up.. except in the free spyware doctor,

have everythijng tighter than a drum on my desk top... haven't shared
files... I still say it is in the download of the program of MM.I want it out
and will not reload it.When I clicked on the bymer thing it did not give the
same code as what comes up. We know that a dll means a dynamic library
link... so what does the info mean? ahead of it. It is the attribute that
gets me???Do you understand this. Let me know

I think that's wise. I don't have *any* spyware programs on my pc,
use only Avast A-V, and Sygate firewall [both free programs], to avoid
conflicts, and it works well for me. I meant to ask earlier if any
error logs were created for MMJB, IE, or in Explorer for the
setup.exe error that might help.

What is the path/location of the "info.dll"... when you search for
it? Can you not tell what program it came from that way? This is
really strange, since I do not have that "info.dll", and MMJB is
working on my system. One difference may be though, that I do NOT use
*Internet Explorer* [I use Netscape], and another is, I don't use
McAfee. Does McAfee use a proxy server?

I grasp that you're so frustrated now, you just want to be rid of it,
so how would you feel about locating the "info.dll" and depending on
where it is... just deleting it... AFTER WRITING IT DOWN somewhere, in
case you had to have it for something else to work?

I can tell you are computer savvy, but sometimes when we are so
annoyed with our pc's we can overlook something [at least I do], :)
so I have to ask... if in your computer searches, you checked to show
all the *hidden* files?
Finding the source of that file would be a god-send, which of course,
you know. After reading a lot more about the recent problems people
have been having uninstalling MMJB, I'm beginning to lose confidence
that we're going to find a solution... but I'm still looking. :)

I have tried this several times. A dialogue box comes up saying
Cannot delete AttributeInfo.dll
Access is denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and the file not currently
in use.

Well the file is not in use as I managed to delete most of the other files
of MM. I don't know about the write protected.

Some people have had problems with Norton AV and pop-up blockers with MMJB,
but it's probably not that, because it worked for awhile with McAfee, right?

Hope that Castle Cops link is going to help... waiting to hear. :)

install and then uninstall MM.Will keep you posted on how that turns out.
Thanks for the good find.
