How do I delete cropped portions from screenshots

I'm inserting screenshots into a Word document but when I try to delete the
cropped areas, the image reverts back to full size. The screenshots are of a
preview of a word document. I am taking the shreenshots using just the print
screen function of Word.

Cropping within Word doesn't really get rid of the rest of the photo. To do
that, use a photo editing program then insert the picture into your Word
document.

In recent versions of Word that offer an option to "compress" images
(there's a Compress button on the Picture toolbar), doing so removes the
cropped portions.
