How do I copy someone about an appointment without inviting them?

When I send an appointment I designate the invitation as optional for
invitees who should know about the meeting but do not have to attend, such as
senior management. But, what I would really like to do is copy them without
inviting them. Does anyone know if that is possible using Outlook?

I know this is going to sound weird, but you need to reply to the appointment in your calendar.
