How do I change the default field value display in Word 2002?

Hello! I must have accidentally hit the wrong switch or something and now
whenever I open a Word document, the TOC does not display normally, instead
displaying the field code.

For example,
{TOC\T "OUTLINE1,1, OUTLINE2,2, OUTLINE3,3,OUTLINE4,4"}

I understand that I can change it back using SHIFT + F9 after Selecting All
in the document, but I am wondering how I can get it to default back to the
way I had it to allow the TOC to display normally when I open the document.
Changing it back in document after document is getting old quick!

Any help any of you can shed on this would be greatly appreciated! :)

You only need to press Alt+F9.

Note that Alt+F9 turns on and of the "Field codes" option in Tools > Options
View tab. The current "Field codes" setting applies to all documents.

Shift+F9 toggles the field codes of fields in the selection only whereas
Alt+F9 toggles the field codes of all fields in the entire document no matter
what you have selected.
