How do i change format of keyboard? the symbols appear wrong

The £ sign on my colleagues computer has been replaced with a # symbol and
the @ symbol is showing as a " - please can someone tell me how i go about
changing the format of the keyboard? i read an earlier post from 2005 that
tells me it is probably set to US settings rather than UK but don't know how
to change this

please help

In Control Panel, click Regional and Language Options. On the Languages tab,
click the Details button (under "Text services and input languages"). On the
Settings tab, choose the default language and specify the "service" (that
is, keyboard layout) to use with that language.
