in a presentation, i would like to add an entrance (dissolve, for example) so
that sentences come in one at a time with a click. i don't mean where you
select effect options and choose for the words to come in one at a time, but
rather i decide when various sentences of the same paragraph/bullet come in
with a click.
thank you.

If it's truly part of the same bullet, you can't really do what you want.

However, there are "grouping" options on the custom animation Effect Options
dialog (right-click the animation in the task pane to get to these) that let
you bring in "levels" of bullets. You might be able to use this to fake what
you want.

Also, you can expand the animations in PPT 2002/2003, and then you can
remove the unnecessary animations from the appropriate sentences. But they
would need to be their own bullet level.

should get you started with that.

thank you for your help. you'd think that you could animate one sentence at a
time in a paragraph/bullet in powerpoint, but i guess it's just something to
hope for in the next upgrade...

You can do bullet-by-bullet animation. But sentence-by-sentence animation
just isn't something PPT does. PPT 2007 won't, either. I suspect that's
because PPT doesn't really "do" sentences the way, say, Word does.

You never know, though -- maybe in the version after 2007....
