How do free url redirectors make their money?

How do the free url redirector services make their money?

I mean the sort of short URL like:

How do these companies make their money? Do they gouge you after a
free year or charge a high price for something you need to have?

One of my reasons for getting that sort of URL is that it can be used
for a long time and even if I change webspace provider. But do the
free URL providers tend to open & close their operations with no real
long term prescence?

Hey Franklin,

They generally make their money by displaying banner ads across the
top of the page (loading your site in a frame). If you click on the
example you gave us, you'll see the links at the top that carry the
kickme affiliate id to the products advertised there.

In addition, I'd have to guess that they also filter some traffic if
they're not meeting their revenue goals.

If you really need a stable url to direct traffic to a number of
different hosts, and don't want to share banner space, I'd recommend
buying one that offers domain forwarding. www.joker.com
http://domains.yahoo.com and www.domainsdirect.com both offer this
service.

You'll buy the domain, forward the traffic (even get statistics) and
never have to worry about where your actual hosting is again.

Hope that helps! If you have other questions, please feel free to ask
me.
