How do create some handouts as (1 per page) and others (2 per page

I would like to arrange the handouts with some as 1 per page and others as 2
per page so that I can print to a PDF file for electronic delivery.

Any ideas?

All handouts will be the same for each print run. There's no getting around
that. But if you print all of the handouts 1-up to PDF, then print all of them
2-up to a different PDF, you can open the first PDF in Acrobat, delete e.g
pages 5 and 6, then insert the 2-up page containing slides 5 and 6 from the
other PDF.
