there are reasons for this... but you don't know them do you?
you can try 2 versions of Linux that include "non opensource" codecs for
audio and video..
there are
MINT ( based on ubuntu but with all the goodies installed)
PCLINUXOS 2007, in fact this one can handle far more media types out of the
box than vista can! lol
