How can I verify if my field names in Access are valid?

When I try to import data from Excel to Access in an existing file it gives
me the message :"The first row contains some data that can't be used for
valid Access field names. In these cases, the wizard will automatically
assign valid field names." The problem is that once I complete all the steps
it tells me that an error occurred and that the file has not been imported
but I have no clue why. How can I know why I can't import my file?

Open your excel file, delete all blank columns at the end of the file. Also
make sure to unhide all of the fields and delete any that you do not care
about. Also make sure that none have duplicate names. Then you should not get
that message.

Please let me know if this helps and if we can provide more assistance.

Hello,

I am currently having the exact same problem. I was importing to a single
table everyday without difficulties but all of a sudden about two weeks ago,
I started getting the 'The first row contains some data...' message. I tried
deleting the extra cols. and nothing is hidden. None of the headers have
changed. The first time I got the message I got around it by saving the Excel
worksheet as .txt file and importing that. The problem now is that I'm
getting the same error message when I'm trying to import that text file. When
I try to let Access pick the field names for me I get an import error saying
that 'Field 8 does not exist in the table' that I'm trying to import into.
Field 8 must be the column after the the last one I would like to import, but
like I said, I deleted that column before trying to import so I don't see why
it's trying to import it in the first place. I can't figure out how to get
Access to ignore any columns past the 7th one. Any help on any of this would
be absolutely great because I am at a standstill right now.

Thanks!!

Mark

If you would like to send you spreadsheet to me I can take a look to see if
anything is off. Send it to
k--a--r--e--n--y--y--y--1--at--c--o--m--c--a--s--t--dot--n--e--t
remove the dashes, etc.
