How can I permanently delete "links" from appearing on my IE6?

Using XP and no IE add-ons.

A long time back I did something so that "links" never appear
(at address bar) when I open my IE6.

I can usually surf to site after site w/o ever having or seeing
the links button appear - except when I click a link from a
page using Javascript. You know, the kind where you cannot
use the trick of holding the shift key to open it in a new page as
the Javascript does that for you.

In my searches I found something I thought would help and tried it.
All it did was permanently remove the "link" directory from my
Favorites. Now instead of just the links button appearing on some
pages I get the first several Favorites subfolders appearing in its
place. Very annoying.

Anyway to never, ever see "links" or anything associated with Favorites
from ever appearing again (next to or part of the address bar) ?

Thanks.

Right click on a empty space on the IE bar(where Files,Tools etc) and deselect Links

Thanks for the suggestion. However, that works for one
instance only - that particular browser window.
The next time I click a javascript link, they reappear.

I want a way to never, ever see them again in all browser windows
regardless of how they were opened..

Doable??? A registry hack, perhaps?

Open Windows Explorer -> Documents and Settings -> UserName -> Favorites:
right click on the "Links" Folder -> Properties -> Check the "Hidden" box ->
Ok.

Uncheck Lock Toolbars.
Deselect Links.
Check Lock Toolbars.

If that doesn't work then it might be a security program blocking the
Registry change it needs to make. A few, but not all, of the programs now
doing this are:
Ad-aware's Ad-Watch
IBM Access Connections
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware
Norton AV
Spyware Blaster
Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks
Spybot- Teatimer
Spysweeper
Spyware Doctor
Windows Defender
Zone Alarm (free) 6.5 Reported to be fixed in later versions.

In the case of Zone Alarm 6.5 or Norton 2007 it actually has to be
uninstalled. Make sure the Windows Firewall is turned on until you
reinstall Zone Alarm.

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking and try the change.

I do use ZA so I removed it.

Booted into safe mode twice.

Once as admin and once as a user.
Reset according to directions on each acct.
Installed the latest ver. of ZA.

No joy.

To make it plain, I have (and had for some time now) the links
turned off in almost every window except those that open via
a java script. Usually that is from a newsletter or whatever.
Just don't understand why I can surf all day with no links
appearing until I click on a javascript link.

Thanks for trying to help.

Still open to suggestions.

Hmmm..I don't have a links folder anymore. I permanently removed that.
And that made the situation worse as now where the "links" would
appear I get the first two folders in my favorites in its place. ARG!!!!
