How can I block Flash

A

Anteaus

Remove the Flash ActiveX control.

Better still, get Firefox and the NoFlash add-on. If you use IE6 on
untrusted sites your computer may get more than just a dose of the Flash, in
fact it may break-out in an 'interesting' rash or two.

If you absolutely must use IE, use v7 or later, where the security is better.

How can I block all Flash displays?

Just uninstall it from within the control panel (add/remove applications)

as you'd uninstall any other application

Download the Flash Uninstaller from the above link, and run it.

This page has both kinds of tools. The Flash Uninstaller is at
the bottom of the page (same as the link above).

http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

And if you get the latest installer, like this one...

http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/updaters/10/flash_player_update1_flash10.zip

then look in Players/Release, there are three files of interest.
The standalone player is pretty useless, but executes without
installing anything (it is like a movie player tool).

The "ActiveX" one, only installs Flash in Internet Explorer.

The "Plugin" one would be used to install Flash in Firefox
or similar Netscape family browsers.

So you have some (limited) control of which browser gets
Flash installed. I use one browser with Flash installed,
and a second browser without Flash. That allows me to
mute the level of advertising when surfing flash-happy
sites.

Players/Release
Install Flash Player 10 ActiveX.exe (installs Flash in IE)
Install Flash Player 10 Plugin.exe (installs Flash in Netscape/Firefox etc)
FlashPlayer.exe (A standalone version of Flash)
Install Flash Player UB.dmg.zip (Flash for Macintoshes and MacOSX)

A better way is to be able to turn it on and off by choice.
use Spyware blaster you can choose to block the flash or let it run.

the only proviso is once the choice is made, and you want to change it, you
have to close the browser and reopen for the change to take effect.
