How about an MVP reply. RE: Update icon in sys tray

R

Randy

The Windows Update icon sits in the system tray and won't respond to a
right, left or double click. Passing the cursor over the icon shows
"downloading updates 0%"

I have Googled this problem and no reasonable answer has been given. No MVP
has replied.

It's a quite good looking icon!!!!

Hi Randy,

What may be a reason to your problem is that the Windows Automatic
Update tool is unable to reach the Windows Update Centre.

Does the icon go away after a time (as it should in that case)?
Can you connect manually to the Windows Update Centre?

I hope you find a solution to your problem.

Sincerely,

Philippe

Hi Philippe,

No, the icon never goes away. It just sits there like a bump on a log. Good
looking icon though.

I can connect to the Windows Update Center and SP2 is available for
download.

I'm a little shy to install SP2 at this time due to some kind of problem
with DirectX 9c and some of my media software. I had to reformat after
installing DirectX 9c. Couldn't Restore.

Thanks for the response.

You have initiated auto download of SP2, but as yet very little has
arrived. You may have to wait a day or so before it even starts - the
pressure on the servers is great and a first come first served is in
operation. Ultimately it will start to show more; how long it will take
depends on your connection speed, but there is likely to be around 100
MB to come over. If you disconnect and reconnect it will pick up from
where it had got to

Thank Alex. So basically, I'm in line.

I would like to see an answer to this as well. I have the exact same thing
going on with mine and don't understand why it stays there but always
showing 0%.
