hotfix

How do I get hotfixes that are not included in the current service pack?
This is my problem.
FIX: You may receive a "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions
in effect on this computer" error message when you try to open the Internet
Options dialog box in Internet Explorer 6. This issue may occur after you
click Open, Save, or Cancel in a File Download - Security Warning dialog box.
I want to get the hotfix but I don't want to pay the $35 fee that Microsoft
charges for technical support. I'm thinking about rebooting my Internet
Explorer or re-installing Windows XP. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to
computer related problems. Can anyone help

That message usually means that the system administrator has placed
restrictions on the use of the computer. This is common in corporate
networks. Where did you get your computer?

I bought my computer from Best Buy over two years ago. As far as I know I
have not made any changes to the settings. Do you know how to get to the
Administrator settings? Thanks for the timely response.

You didn't buy that computer in a sealed box.

You should contact BestBuy for help.

Close IE.
Open Regedit.
Find the value NoBrowserOptions and remove every instance of it.
It is most likely (but not necessarily) to be here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions

You might try this from Mike Burgess first if you use SpyBot:
'Did you by chance run SpyBot's Immunize feature?
If so, you can unlock by unchecking the option to "Protect IE Control
Panel".
