HOMEDRIVE and HOMEPATH evironmental variables

I want to change the HOMEDRIVE and HOMEPATH variables so that my user
folder is somewhere else on my computer.

Would that mess up my account in Windows XP and the settings for
programs I use?

What are the consequences of changing HOMEDRIVE and HOMEPATH?
