Home Networking - Strange Problems #2

Icarus

hi guys thanks for your help last time, it has taught me alot about
networking and yeilded some success.

As suggested, I used the windows run feature found in the start menu to
ping another machine on my network.

The machines can now see eachother over the network and can share
files. Machine #1 accesses the net and I want machine #2 to use it as a
gateway.

My home network consists of 2 machines, connected by a hub.

I have set their tcp\ip settings like this:
IP address:
10.0.0.1 (machine #1)
10.0.0.2 (machine #2)

subnet mask :
255.255.255.0 on both machines

Default gateway:
10.0.0.1
Both Machines

DNS:
195.95.195.97
Both Machines

Alt DNS:
195.95.195.94
Both Machines

Does anyone have any ideas as to why machine #2 cannont use machine
#1's internet connection?

Thanks,

Icarus

How is Computer #1 connected to the internet, and to the hub? By the same, or
different, connections? Are you using ICS, or a proxy server?

If you want to use ICS:
1) Connect Computer #1 to the Internet, and to the hub, thru 2 separate
connections.
2) Run the Network Setup Wizard on Computer #1, and select:
This computer connects directly to the Internet. The other computers on my
network connect to the Internet through this computer.
3) Run the NSW on Computer #2, and select:
This computer connects to the Internet through another computer on my network or
through a residential gateway.

What is the make and model of the hub? Is it a regular OSI level 2 device, or a
switch? Or a router?
