Home Edition XP start up problem

When starting up my computer gets to the Home Edition XP page and stays on it, the green light continues across the page but the computer goes no further. I've tried F8 last known good config. and also system restore but that still doesnt work....any help please.

Can you boot to safe mode?

Have you tried destuctive recovery. Takes it back to day
bought. Make sure you have back up CDS though. when you
turn on comp keep tapping f10 and system recovery will
come up then click on the advanced tab. Takes 15 min.
used it 6 times now. But you lose everything and have to
put it all back on. Make sure you go straight to get all
your updates for your computer first when done. IMPORTANT

disconnect from internet:Remove the cable/phoneline do the recovery 2nd one works well or the destructive either or,when done make sure it reboots and then inable internet connection fireWall/ network connections/yourconnection/rightclick property's protect my computer

yep, done that a couple of times now, and i update straight away, and it works for a while and then back to the same problem
