Hkcmd.exe error and ITunes?

G

Guest

When I start my computer on Windows 2000, I get a hkcmd.exe error message.
All programs on the computer seem to work fine except for Itunes which when
opened is ghost-like and doesn't show the background of the application.

1. Are these problems related?
2. How do I fix the error

Thanks Caylin

You may need to reinstall your Intel graphics adapter driver.

Thanks - the problem is - when I bought my Dell I got a piece of paper with
it that says I won't require an operating CD or driver CD that all i have to
do is go to Microsoft Windows System Restore to restore everything - i have
no idea what or where that is? It also says I can go to the owners manual on
my desktop for more info - again - it's not there. Any ideas of my next step?

Call Dell and request they send you the media.

Please submit samples of the ITunes executable and hkcmd.exe to Virus Total --
http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html
The submission will then be tested against many different AV vendor's scanners.
That will give you an idea what it is and who recognizes it. In addition, unless told
otherwise, Virus Total will provide the sample to all participating vendors.

You can also submit a suspect, one at a time, via the following email URL...
mailto:[email protected]?subject=SCAN

When you get the report, please post back the exact results.

Thanks Dave - I uninstalled my correct driver and got the new driver off of
Intel's site - I just did a search for "8285G" and it took me to the download
page.

Although it fixed the error - Im still hahving the same issue with Itunes -
any idea why it is ghost like? It launches and you can see the text but not
the actual background, window or any graphics - I'm mystified.

| What file from the Itunes do I attach to the email to VirusTotal? Thanks! C.

Whichever EXE file you are lauching. Look at the ShortCut fully quallified name and opath
and then have VT scan the EXE file.

At the very minimum, I'd like to see the VT report from; hkcmd.exe

Unfortunately I uninstalled the bad hkcmd .exe so I can't scan that and Virus
Total is rejecting ITunes.exe because it is bigger than 10MB. I don't want
to lose my entire music library by uninstalling ITunes - any ideas? Thanks!

The fact that you say ITunes.exe >10MBs defeats the idea that this may have been an instance
of a Downloader.Agent.AWF infection.
My gut feeling was incorrect. That's good !

I am afraid you will have to re-install Apple ITunes. You should NOT lose your library of
music in doing so.

thanks - I tried reinstalling I-Tunes and I still have the same ghostly
problem - I think I'm going to hop over to the ITunes forums to see if they
have any info - thanks again!
