HIGH Screen resolution kills performance in XP?

C

I got my resolution AS high as possible right now.
I read/heard the higher the resolution, you get a drop in performance?
1280 X 1024 right now, what's a good one for performance?

Or does it matter????????

For best Quality set it to:
1024 by 768 Pixels.

WHAT?!
Nass - where did you get that nonsense?

Your performance - as far as resolution goes - matters more on your hardware
and drivers than just what you have the resolution is set at... So what
hardware do you have (Processor, memory, video card - do you have the latest
driver installed?)

In plain English, yes, it matters but not to all things. The higher the
resolution is set, the more procesor power required to "paint" or "draw" the
screen because it has more pixels to display.
So, you'll notice slowdowns in anything that requires a lot of
computatioal power to display the screen.

The higher the resolution, the smaller things are when displayed on the
screen. You'd probably notice high res impacts the most when viewing video
or very complex and large images.

Whatever is 'best' for performance is up to you; the "quality" of displays
at different resolutions may or may not matter to you, so it depends on your
own assessment and what you perceive plus, if you use any, the applications
you use. Some applications say they work best at some specific resolution
but that's usually due to the spcific design of the program.
Whatever looks best to you and works well for you is hte best resolution.
Experiment a little and see what happens. Personally, since I surf a fair
amount, I stick to 1024 x ... and things fit fine without being ridiculously
small, esp text when it's rendered.

Performance is not the issue, and "best quality" is not the issue. The
resolution (for CRTs) should be set to whatever works best for you.
That's normally determined by a combination of how large your monitor
is and how good your eyes are. There is no "best quality" that's best
for everyone.

As a starting place for individual experimentation, I recommend trying
the following resolutions:

15" 800x600
17" 1024x768
19" 1280x1024

LCD monitors, on the other habd, are a different story entiirely. each
has its own native resolution, and that's what it's best at. No other
choice should be considered for LCDs.

No nonsense Shenan in my post, I didn't mentioned Performance at all in my
Post, I mentioned better quality resolutions.

Set your screen resolution to 1280 x 1024 and move on.
(That should be the native resolution of the monitor you have quoted
yourself as having - that is your 'sweet spot'.)

If you need larger icons/text - change the settings appropriately - but try
to keep the native resolution of the monitor while doing it.

No. Me 'and that guy' love coffee. I want the world to love
coffee,it's great and everyone should know this.
Also, 'coffee lover' is a nice newer name that expresses my love of
coffee.

Plus, I needed the down-lo on the LCD resolutions.

thanks for answers ;-)

If they bought it in the last year - it may be 19" - but it is likely 19"
widescreen.
It's becoming more commonplace to sell the widescreen - widescreen
everything.

1024x768 is a horible resolution for widescreen. ;-)

With standard aspect (4:3) on a wide aspect (16:10) monitor circles
look like ovals, people in photos look like they have gained 30% more
weight, etc. etc. etc.
