Hidden rows and calculations

I wanted to know whether it is possible to hide rows of data in such a way
that the values they contain are not included in the total calculations that
appear at the bottom of my spreadsheet.

Maybe you could use data|filter|autofilter to hide the rows and then use
=subtotal() in the formulas at the bottom.

Or if you're using xl2003 or higher, you can hide rows manually and use
=subtotal(1##, ...) as the formula.

Are you talking about formulas in cells in the worksheet or the numbers that
show up in the status bar?

I assumed formulas in cells.
