Hi,

Are there any more play things like these listed below, most of which
were installed right out of the box?

cleanmgr.exe
cmd.exe
eventvwr.msc
gpedit.msc
From XP--- MSconfig.exe
ntmsmgr.msc
regedit.exe
regedt32.exe
winmsd.exe

Thanks!

None of those are toys, if you launch a search for *.exe or *.msc you'll get
a few hundred more. Read the help files about your command interpreter as
well.

Hi again,

.........None of those are toys,

That's true, but I do like to fool around with them. I learned a lot the
first time I got over my head in the group policy editor. I'm a little
more careful now and have a great backup policy too.

.........Read the help files about your command interpreter

I gave that a try and could fine info on commands, but nothing would
come up when I try a search with both words together. What specifically
should I be looking for.

Thanks!

Hi George,

........Play with iexplore

Hell, I'm still using Netscape 4.8. When it can no longer do what's
necessary I'll upgrade a little at a time.

Thanks!

Congrats for learner the lesson about the policy editor.

Those are not "words", they were extensions. The asterisk in *.exe is a wild
card that says..."find all objects having an extension of exe".

Learn to run the MMC console. Run > MMC
And Add/remove snap-ins.

As far as the command interpreter: Run > command
And get help for internal and external commands by asking it for help
comments.
example: xcopy /? or start /?
