You want to turn system restore off cause the virus is saved in one of your
restore points. To do this go to Start>All programs>Accessories>System
Tools>System Restore. Click on System Restore Settings and check the box
that says "Turn off system restore on all drives." This will delete all your
restore points and the virus as well. You can then set a new restore point.

Hi,

It's in a restore point, you need to purge them. There are three ways to
easily remove restore points (you should not do this selectively).

1) Start/run cleanmgr.exe (disk cleanup), there is a "clean up" button on
the "more options" tab to remove all but the newest restore point.

2) Control Panel/System/System Restore tab, go to settings and reduce the
amount of space allotted to System Restore. This will remove older restore
points, how many depends on how much space you require for a point, and how
much space you leave.

3) Control Panel/System/System Restore tab, click the "turn off system
restore on all drives" box. This will eliminate all restore points. Once
reenabled, the system will begin creating new ones. You should reboot in
between doing this.

Ok now they told you how to get rid of it. & you are lucky in this
case it is so easy to get rid of.

Seeing as you are new to XP, I'll tell you (ignore the rest of my
reply if you already know this): You must have a firewall when on the
Internet. This is in addition to running AVG anti-virus. In 5 seconds
you could end up with something without one. There is evil stuff
constantly floating around the Internet trying to get into your
computer and infect you.

You need to run a software firewall, or be behind a router (hardware
firewall - a router is used for a home network). XP has a built-in
firewall, but it must be turned on. To turn it on,
start\control-panel\network connections - right click on the icon in
there, choose "properties", then "advanced" & check the box protect my
computer etc etc", then "OK".

The XP firewall is Ok, but a 3rd party software one is better. A 3rd
party one will tell you when something is trying to access your
computer if you want, & tell you when stuff is trying to contact out
from your computer too. A free firewall program that people say is
good is " Zone Alarm". Like AVG anti-virus, there is a Pro version
they push at you. but there is a freeware version.

P.S. Do not use a legitimate email address in Usenet here. Just
enter in a fake address (look at other people's and see). Your email
address will probably be harvested & you will be on a list & start
receiving virused/trojaned/wormed email. Or just an onslaught of
repeating email, just because there are a few people who get an
erection thinking about how they are so cool & made someone suffer
with something their superior intellect allowed them to create or
modify...
