Hi Use2be,
With the limited information that you give I would make the
following suggestions;
Buy a 'wireless' router so that you don't have to run wires to your
daughters laptop.
2. Run a cat5 Ethernet cable from the modem to the router
3. Connect the router to the cpu (note that if your desktop computer
doesn't have an Ethernet port I would strongly recommend buying an
Ethernet card (they go for about $30US))
4. Set the wireless section of the router so that SSID doesn't
broadcast and turn on MAC address authentication. (note if you are
really security conscious, you can also turn on WPA encryption.)
Your daughter should turn on wi-fi on her laptop, and she should be
good to go and you can operate as normal.
If you want to contact me off list, you may.

That which a man buys too cheaply . . .
He esteems too lightly
My daughter has a new laptop and we wish to add a router to our modem in
order for her to receive high speed internet on her laptop. Our problem is
with the adapter and getting it all installed correctly.
We have usb ports on the harddrive and are attempting to convert it to
ethernet. We have a D-link adapter but don't know how to install it into
the harddrive.
Any help?
Thanks!!!!
