Help with IE

Herman Klump

I'm posting this again as an update and because no one here seems to
know anything about Internet Explorer 6 - I thought this was the right
group to ask. Is this a Microsoft help group? If so, why has no one
responded to the question I posted (below)? What is an MVP?
Hello and thankx in advance for any input. I've been having a problem
with Internet Explorer 6 holding any changes I've made to it. Whenever
I re-position or change a toolbar and exit out, the changes I made
are not being saved. When I re-open Explorer, all the toolbars and
buttons are right back to the way they were before I made changes.
I checked Lock the Toolbars under the VIEW menu but it didn't fix
the problem. Someone suggested deleting my temporary files from
Internet Explorer but that didn't fix it. Also, my son told me to load
Internet Explorer version 7, but I'm just getting used to version 6.
He also helped me to run a full virus scan with AVG Free and also
scans with AsAware SE Personal and Windows Defender.
Nothing showed any problems or helped the cause.

Update - a neighbor kid suggested that I delete cookies from IE6 but
that didn't help. He also helped me download and run CCleaner but the
problem remains the same. Although, that's more help than I received
here. Neighbor kid - 1.... Microsoft 'Experts' - 0
My computer is less than a year old and I have not had any other
problems with any other programs. My daughter was here and
suggested that I not use Internet Explorer anymore and install
a Mozila Firefox browser instead. As I said, I'm used to Explorer 6
so that might be a problem, but if that solves it, then I may have to
do that. I would appreciate any suggestions or input from anyone.

Update - I downloaded and installed Firefox, again with the help of the
neighbor kid, and it works great. I can move things around, exit, then
re-open and it remembers all of my changes. It would still be nice to
know what's wrong with IE6 but I guess I'll have to find another
neighbor kid to ask.

Neighbor kid - 2.... Firefox - 1.... Microsoft - 0

This is microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support and
nothing to do with IE ; ( although some people do respond ) .
I have IE7 on my machine , ( which is buggy, IE7 not my machine )
but 99.9% of my surfing is done through Opera browser because it`s
easier .

Have you tried reinstalling IE6?
Although the name of this group has microsoft in it, microsoft isn't here.

Run :
SFC /SCANNOW

If no help, try:
Restore toolbars in IE: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_toolbarfix.htm

Everyone who posts here, including the MVP's, are strictly volunteers who
have no real ties to Microsoft. MS recognizes their contribution to the
community with a title.

Thanx for the heads up. I'm new to this Usenet thing. I'll try SFC when
I have time and post back as to what happens.

Thanx for the info. I saw lots of posts here from MVP folks who I
thought were somehow certified by Microsoft and would answer questions.

How do I go about re-installing IE6? Never mind - I just Googled that
and found an MS knowledge-based article on just that. Thanx for the
suggestion.

No, this is not the right group, one of the IE groups would be more
suitable.

Thank you for the information - I wasn't aware of any IE6 groups. Could
you suggest one?

Thanx
Herman

Internet Explorer 6 help group: Scroll down the list of Windows XP
Newsgroups (to the left of your post) - down to the fourth lowermost group,
which on mine PC is the Internet Explorer6/Outlook Express Newsgroup. There
you will find forums for - General as well for - Setup.
