Help with emerging from "Stand by"

I'm using my daughter's new Gateway notebook. Everytime it goes into the
Stand by mode, I find that neither clicking the mouse buttons nor any key on
the keyboard will power it back up. The only way I have found to emerge from
Stand by is to press the Power button. Is this the only way to emerge from
Stand by? If not, what's the usual way to resume power after it's been on
Stand by mode? Does the same apply to the Hybernate mode?

Check settings in Power Options. There is a page that tells the system
how/when to go into Standby or Hibernate. On most portables, standby is
automatic after x amount of minutes. To protect battery life, the system
may then proceed to hibernate which requires a full startup to get back to
Windows.

Also check properties of the keyboard and mouse. If there is a Power
Management page for these devices, check the box next to "allow this device
to bring the system out of standby."
