stand by problem

After having updated my notebook RAM (from 1 to 2 GB) and installed the
latest office SP, I am experiencing a problem with the stand by function. If
I try to put the computer in stand by mode an error pops up telling me that
the system doesn't have the resources to start the API function. From that
time on the stand by icon disappears from my exiting menu until I restart the
PC. At the first restart thereafter I get my PC freezed before entering
windoes. Pushing the on-off switch afterwards enables me to restart the
computer as nothing was happened. Please note that the new RAM works properly.
how can I try to solve the problem?

In case that you're talking about 'Hibernation' rather than 'Stand-by'
and that you didn't post the *exact* wording of that error message:
