HELP! Windows VPN client disconnects intermittently

S

Scott

I recently switched my broadband from cable modem to DSL. For some reason,
my VPN session is now getting dropped frequently. It happens regardless of
the level of activity (it's definitely not due to inactivity), and it's
frequent (every 3-15 minutes), but not regular.

I've done a bunch of searching on this, and from what I could gather, the
client is disconnecting from the server(?). I've been through the
connection properties, and there doesn't seem to be any "peer response
timeout" value that I can bump up. If I'm on the right track, I'm hoping
someone out there knows of a registry setting for this...?

Does anyone have experience with this? Any information you could provide
would be greatly appreciated. This is making life really unpleasant...

Thanks in advance.

If everything else was the same, then you may have a problem with your new ISP.
A common problem with dsl is the MTU configuration. You may want to start there
and ask your ISP or visit their website and look for FAQ or other info on MTU.
You can configure MTU size in your router configuration or DSL connectoid if you
are unfortunate enough to be using that instead. I suggest tweaking it first to
around 1458 and then to 1400 if problem persists to see if it helps. --- Steve
