HELP - Windows Explorer crashes and then freezes the whole system

When i eject a cd from the cd-rom drive if Windows Explorer is open showing
the directory contents of the cd-rom drive, Explorer.exe stops responding and
the pc freezes up.
If however Explorer is open, examining a different directory other than the
cd-rom drive when the cd is ejected then i dont have a problem. The cd ejects
and the pc does not freeze up. At the moment, i am having to remember to
navigate to a different directory or close down Explorer before i eject a
cd..which isnt exactly ideal.
Sorry for the repost but i got no response a couple of weeks back when i
posted..hopefully there might be someone floating around who might give me a
few pointers as to what could be causing the problem and how i might resolve
it.

Thanks in advance

Try to look in the event viewer for any error messages (X) that can shed
some light on the real causer.
Then Right click My Computer and select Properties then click on Hardware
Tab then click Device manager.
On Device Manager click on your CD-ROM and expand it do you see an
exclamation mark or Red Cross?.
Remove the CD-ROM from Device Manager and Reboot, window will detect and
install the CD-ROM Driver for you, does this help?.
Good luck.

Thanks for the reply nass
Cant really narrow down from Event viewer what prob is. There was no red
cross or exclamation mark btw. I uninstalled and reinstalled the cd drive as
you suggested anyway. But it hasnt resolved the prob unfortunately..the pc
still freezes if Explorer is examining the contents of the drive when a cd is
ejected. Is there anything else i could be looking at?

Thanks again
