Help: Two LAN Cards on Win 2k Server

G

Guest

Hi

I have two LAN cards on a Windows 2000 Server, one is for a normal LAN connection, and the other is directly connected to an ADSL Modem

Now, what i need to do is somehow configure the system to say that the second LAN card is for internet and allow it to share this device so others can access the internet

I am trying to stop using these little ADSL routers and just go direct to the server which i want to host Internet access

How do i configure the system to dedicate the second LAN card to Internet usage and share it to other LAN users with some sort of managability

Thanks for any upcoming info

Regard

Default gateway on 2nd NIC, none on 1st.
Add a static route to the routing table for the LAN.
Turn on routing

Your server should not be your router and it should be behind a firewall, no
matter how tired you are of the little routers.

Read server Help about Internet connection sharing. When you set ICS,
continue to read Help about RRAS. LAN connector should have a static IP, the
Internet connector should have either a dynamic or static IP from the
different range. Open menu Network/Advanced/AdvancedSettings and move LAN
connector to the top. LAN DHCP/DNS/WINS... services should be bound to the
LAN connector only. If you set up it correctly you never need to edit
neither the registry nor routing table manually.
Hardware router is a better solution than a software one and provides at
least the same manageability.
