Internet sharing for 2 different LAN

Hi,

We have 2 LAN that uses different subnets. We would like to be able to
share 1 ADSL connection via SMC Router.

LAN1 subnet is 10.0.0.xxx
LAN2 subnet is 192.168.2.xxx

How can I configure the router in such a way that the two subnets will be
able to reach the internet but will not be able to see each other's network
resources.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Garry

It depends on the sophistication of the router. Your basic SMC SOHO router
won't have the capability to do this for you. If you have a multi-interface
router you can NAT from different subnets (NAT Pools) to the Internet and
add an access-list to prevent routing between subnets. You'll need a
relatively high-end router to do that. Otherwise, you can use a three router
setup.

Internet
|
Router 1
/ \
Router 2 Router 3
| |
10.0.0.x/24 192.168.2.x/24

That'll have you double NATted which will work just fine if you're not doing
anything fancy with port forwarding (basic port forwarding will work, you'l
just have to forward everything twice).

Thanks Kurt,

Since we have the resources, I will try the three router setup. Am I
correct that the global IP of router2 & router3 will be at the same subnet
of router1's local IP?

Yep, you could almost consider that subnet a sort of DMZ. Devices in there
would be accessible from both subnets. Of course to access anything on
either of the LANS sourced from the DMZ will not be possible unless you
forward the appropriate ports.
