Help to connect pleeeease!

P

Pete Stockdale

Hi,

Help request please...

Had Freeserve Broadband set up ok on two adjacent pc's - one running Windows
98 the other Windows XP Pro.
Modem is an external Alcatel Speeedtouch USB and Broadband obtained by
plugging the modem into a USB port on one or other pc.

Couple of days ago had an XP prob, did an XP repair job and system seems to
be well, and now, although the Modem hardware and software seem to be loaded
correctly cannot get connected. Have uninstalled and re-installed a few
times without joy. When the modem is plugged into the Windows 98 machine
that continues to functions fine.

Any ideas from the following clues:-

When clicking the Speedtouch Connection Icon get the message -

STDial Up
RAS capable device (Alcatel Speed Touch USB ADSL PPP) not found
Check that your device is connected properly.
Failed to create dial-up networking entry (Alcatel Speedtouch Connection)

click ok and then get -

STD Dial up
Could not create entry (Alcatel Speedtouch Connection)

When I do Start/Control Panel/Interrnet Options/Connections there is nothing
loaded in the window entitled Dial-up and Private Network Settings

and clicking Add brings up -

Network Connection
Cannot load the Remote Access Connection Manager
Error 711: A configuration error on this computer is preventing this
connection

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Thanks,

Pete

Pete,
Try uninstalling the Speedtouch software, disconnect the unit and reboot.
Then reinstall the software and reboot.
After XP opens, connect the Speedtouch unit, and Windows will detect and
finish the USB install.
Hope this helps
