"Not Prompted to Disconnect After You Quit Internet Explorer"

I have been through some of the suggested remedies for this problem i.e :-

Tools/InternetOptions/Connections/and ticked the relevant boxes. No result.

I have also checked the registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT USER\SOFTWARE\ through to \Internet Settings
and changed the data values of "EnableAuto/EnableExit Disconnect to 01 00
00 00.No result.

Could it be because I have a miscellany of 8 connection names
in Internet Settings, all related to Freeserve/Wanadoo my ISP
or Alcatel (Broadband)connection modem? (see list below)

I believe that I only need two
(1) my "Broadband" main connection and
(2) "Pay as you go" as a backup connection

If this is so, is it just a case of "Delete" in the Registry ?

Any help appreciated, this has been going on far too long now.

You only get that prompt after *all* Internet aware applications
have terminated, not just IE. What else is running or installed,
such as toolbars, IE extensions, etc?

FWIW the culprit that was doing it to me was Alexa.
However, I only found that out after adapting to using
OE's Work Offline prompt instead. I got so used to using
that technique to hangup and it is so much more useful anyway
that now I hardly ever see the prompt you are wanting to get back.
So you could treat this as a good thing... ;)

Is your timed disconnect working? Losing that would be more
serious IMO. However, I fortunately have always had it.

Robert, thanks for your reply.

I am a bit of a novice at all this, but I do close down everything when
browsing,
and then finally click the top left icon in IE and select "close".

Previously I always had the prompt ,but now I have to remember
to click on the icon(twin monitors?) in the taskbar, although it is not
always visible. Then I need to go to Control Panel and Internet Connections
to disconnect.

I am aware of the Work Offline option (under "File" in IE) ,
but can tell me some more about how to use this in relation to
disconnecting from IE

Thanks

....
I do close down everything when browsing,

That's the point about my example, it was installed but not running.
You may have to experiment uninstalling stuff to find out what is
causing the symptom if you really want that prompt back.

I think it may be interesting for you to do that just to find out
what the real cause is but if you need whatever it is that is causing
the problem I think your best alternative it is to get into the habit
of generating one of your own (e.g.) using the OE Work Offline
command.

BTW another way NT users can hangup is to Run... or execute
in a command window rasdial /d Sometimes it is more convenient
to do that than get the prompt. OTOH after I use that I sometimes
get disconcerted when I find out that I am still in a Working Online
state (because the rasdial disconnect command is independent
of GlobalUserOffline.)

I am aware of the Work Offline option (under "File" in IE) ,
but can tell me some more about how to use this in relation to disconnecting from IE

It's OE not IE where you should be trying to set Work Offline.
And you have to do it in the main application window or it will be
just the same as doing it in IE. Use any of three methods:
press Alt-F,W; doubleclick on Working Online in the Status bar,
or use the Offline toolbar button. Then you will get a prompt
asking you if you would like to hangup before going offline.

I very rarely any more reach a state where everything is closed,
especially not with both no IE and no OE windows, so getting that
prompt is a very useful habit to have acquired.
